Letter from the President
Our pursuit of this goal begins with the recognition that major advances often come not from new technology or business insights by themselves, but by combining new technology with new user scenarios and business models. Accordingly, RII employs a combination of technology research, end-user field research, and innovative partner relationships to develop the insights that, with time and hard work, deliver new value to the world. As a member of Ricoh Company, Ltd., one of the world's leading suppliers of office automation equipment, we can rely on the broad capabilities and financial strength of a global corporation. But by working independently in small, interdisciplinary teams we can act quickly and decisively, whether we’re creating new technologies or partnering with a small company. As a member of the famous culture of Silicon Valley, we value imagination, innovation, and personal integrity in all their many forms. Yet above all, we value the people who in the end define the culture and therefore the contributions of this and every other vibrant enterprise. As we evolve our own culture, we like to bear in mind the words of a renowned scientist who once remarked that the object of life is to make work and play indistinguishable. It would be too much to say that we've achieved that, but perhaps we come closer to realizing this ideal than most.
